Devlog: Visualizing the Lethality
One of the most frequent questions for any dice pool system is: "What are my actual chances?" In the latest update to the Strike Force SRD, I’ve added Appendix: Probability & Analytics. This isn't just a collection of graphs; it’s a tactical breakdown of how the Professional Shield and Difficulty Thresholds actually feel in play .
Why the Math Matters
The Strike Force System is built on the principle that competence mitigates chaos. While the dice pool remains a variable, the progression of an Operative’s Skill and Property levels creates a predictable reliability essential for mission planning.
Designer’s Notes: Reading the Data
- The Shield is Your Best Friend: The Professional Shield is the most significant factor in shifting probability. By discarding "1s" before they cancel successes, it ensures a skilled Operative (Skill 2+) is significantly less likely to suffer total failure on Standard tasks.
- The "Standard" Baseline: A Difficulty of 2 is our benchmark for professional action under fire. An Operative with a pool of 6 dice has a ~63% chance of success, representing a reliable but not guaranteed outcome.
- The Difficulty "Cliff": At Difficulty 3 (Difficult), the math shifts significantly. Success without a pool of at least 6–8 dice becomes a high-risk gamble, reinforcing the need for tactical advantages, cover, or specialized gear.
- The Botch Paradox: Interestingly, catastrophic failure (Botches) peaks at a dice pool of 2 (~19.4%). Because the Botch check occurs before the Professional Shield is applied, increasing your dice pool to 8+ makes the risk of a Botch statistically negligible.

The goal of this Appendix is to give Control (the GM) the confidence to set Difficulty levels that feel "fair" while giving Operatives the data they need to decide when to push their luck.
